Listening and seeking to understand each other is the way towards peace. Expecting and valuing differences is a way towards peace. Expecting everyone to be alike and to think and value things in the same way is forcing our own values on others. Peace is freedom to be ourselves while respecting that others also have the freedom to be themselves.

Asking questions about another person is a good way to learn more about them as well as a good way to start or keep a conversation going.
People like to talk about themselves so being a good conversationalist often means not talking as much as you listen. Asking open-ended questions about interests and experiences or opinions can draw out more conversation than simple questions that can be answered with yes or no or other one word responses.
